An overly complicated tumble dryer with a bad design flaw

"How difficult can a tumble dryer be? Well, my previous machine was dead simple. Put clothes in, turn dial, go. Simple. Then there's this machine. Setting it up to WiFi was straightforward enough. The instructions are written in poor English grammar and have been translated by a non-native English speaker. Still, they make just about enough sense to understand. Using it for the first time there were lights flashing everywhere, like being in Las Vegas, lots of bleeps and chirps, but I cannot get it to to start.

Back to the Instruction manual to figure out what button(s) I need to press to to get this machine to turn on. I’m a train driver, I’m used to complicated sequences and a plethora of buttons but this thing has me perplexed. How my mother in her 70’s would be expected to figure this machine out is beyond me, she calls me every day to ask me how to do something easy on her phone, so this would be nigh impossible for her.

10 minutes later, a few button presses, some frustration and hey presto, I got it to start. Straight away I was not impressed by the noise it made. It is noisier than my old machine and it’s quite a concerning sound to be fair. Now because this is brand new and the first time I have used it I don't know if I have a defective machine or whether that is simply how it is supposed to sound, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt, and be keeping a close eye on it. Also, one thing that isn't mentioned on the AO website, or anywhere I could see prior to ordering it is that the extraction vent is located on the side at the bottom left, and in the instructions it states to keep the machine well-ventilated and the vent 'unobstructed'. Hoover, It's a tumble dryer! these things get fitted into tight kitchens, utility rooms etc. To place the vent where they have is just poor design as by the machine's very nature, people will fit them into spaces where the vent will be obstructed. Massive design flaw if you ask me. To finish, this is not a ‘put the instruction manual away and forget’ machine, you will need to keep the manual close at hand to translate the many meaningless symbols. Honestly, I think it might be easier to translate ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. Once I have achieved my B.A Hons in 'The usage of Hoover Tumble Dryers' and I have learned how to master the many buttons, symbols and settings and translate all the lights and bleeps I will post a further review, and who knows, I may give it a better score. Hopefully, the noise is just how this thing is supposed to sound and it won't break on me. Lastly, as previously mentioned, a tumble dryer needs not be this complicated a device. More electronics is simply more to go wrong. Please manufacturers, KEEP IT SIMPLE"

Quick and quiet

"Great product, dries quickly and quietly. The water collection tank in the door is very handy compared to bottom placed water tanks."

Great - used in a flat

"Really good, takes a few times to get used to all of the settings. Not too noisy with the door closed. Great!"

Great tumble dryer from ao!

"Great tumble dryer. Easy to empty water container and lint trap. My clothes come out not needing ironing. AO delivered promptly and unpacked for me. Would definitely order an appliance from ao again. Next time I’ll purchase their membership for great discounts and expanded services. Definitely worth it."
